Elizabeth M. "Babs" Stronge Spencer's Island - Elizabeth M. "Babs" Stronge - 84, of Spencer's Island, Cumberland County passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Black Isle, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (MacKenzie) Fridge. She served with the Women's Land Army of Scotland during World War II. Following the war, she came to Canada with her husband, Willard and settled in Spencer's Island. In 2006, she was recognized during the "Year of the War Brides" as the last surviving war bride of the Advocate area. She was very active with numerous organizations throughout her community. She is survived by a daughter, Heather Morris (Greg), Advocate Harbour; sons, Richard (Lynn); Stephan (Nancy), all of Advocate Harbour; James (Doris), Parrsboro; Douglas, Spencer's Island; sister, Jemima MacGregor, Ross-shire, Scotland; a brother, Alexander, Ross-shire, Scotland; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Willard; a daughter, Audrey; a son, Millard in infancy; great grandson, Josh; sister, Suzanna. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) at the Spencer's Island Union Church, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Jean Simms-Mills officiating. Burial in the Allenville Cemetery.
