HARRY WALL - 1930-2005 RYDER

RYDER, HARRY WALL - 1930-2005 - Harry Wall Ryder passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was 74. Harry was a Professional Engineer who began his career in 1954 following graduation from the University of New Brunswick with a Civil Engineering Degree. He then joined H.G. Acres and Company for which he crisscrossed the country working on many engineering projects. Harry spent his entire career (over 50 years) with Acres. In 1974, Harry established the office in Sydney, Nova Scotia now S.G.E. Acres Limited, where as Manager, he led many multi-disciplinary engineering projects in municipal, structural, transportation, environmental and petroleum engineering. Harry had become a well-known figure in the engineering and business community in Cape Breton. He always found time to help smaller companies and individuals with a need for engineering advice. In 1989, the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia honored Harry with an Engineering Award for "Distinctive Achievement in the Practice of Engineering". Harry was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Ontario and Quebec. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Sydney River Council and St. Joseph Church, Sydney. Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Harry was predeceased by his parents, the late G. Stewart and Justine (Bols) Ryder and was the last member of his immediate family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Monday at 7 p.m., with Rev. Patrick O'Neil officiating. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Parish in St. Stephen, New Brunswick at a later date. Harry will be sadly missed by his many friends, co-workers and colleagues.
