BRIDGEO, REV. GEORGE "BRUCE" - Of Browns Flat, NB passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on July 1, 2005 at the age of 78. Born in Port Maitland, NS on May 31, 1927. He was the son of the late Edward and Christine (Parry) Bridgeo. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years ; Mary Ella (Haywood) Bridgeo, his three children; Edward Bridgeo and his wife Lydia of Sussex, Joan McCoy and her husband Stuart of Roann, Indiana and Dr. David Bridgeo of Windsor, Ontario, his sister Mabel Stone of Belleville, Ontario, five grandchildren Tracey Carter, Jodi McGibbon, Shane McGibbon, Capt's Robyn and Stephanie Bridgeo, Ryan and Holly Bridgeo and Jeff McCoy and twelve great grandchildren; Jesse and Shawn Carter, Dustin, Cody and Nicholas Wilson, Billie McGibbon, Ashley, Hannah and Elijah Bridgeo, and Jordan, Taylor and Micah Bridgeo, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by six sisters; Neta, Violet, Katherine, Louise, Alice and Elsie and by three brothers; Clyde, Robert and Edward. Bruce was a retired Wesleyan Minister and College Professor. In 1945, Bruce attended Holiness Bible Institute in Woodstock, NB. He was the interim pastor at the Reformed Baptist Church in Woods Harbour and later pastored at the Reformed Baptist Church in Jonesport, Maine from 1949 to 1953. From 1953 to 1958, Bruce attended Olivet Nazarene University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. Following graduation he taught at Bethany Bible College in Yarmouth, NS until 1959 when he began pastoring the Reformed Baptist Church in Halifax, NS. IN 1967, he began teaching in Sussex at Bethany Bible College and in 1969 he received his Masters degree. In 1992, Bruce retired and moved to his summer home in Browns Flat. He and his wife Mary wintered in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for three years and later wintered in Florida for the next seven winters. From 2004 - 2005 Bruce resided at his home in Browns Flat, NB. The funeral service was held on July 5th at the Beulah Camp Tabernacle in Browns Flat, NB. Opening comments were given by Rev. Don Ingersoll followed by a congregational chorus "I'll Be True Blessed Jesus". Scripture was read by Rev. Peter Thomas followed by a trio of close friends: Paul Mullen, Cedric Landers, and Stuart Steeves, singing "That I Might Be Like Jesus". Family memories were shared by grand-sons Robyn and Ryan Bridgeo. The message was delivered by Dr. HC Wilson, followed by "It Is Well With My Soul" sung by a one-hundred voice choir of his ministerial colleagues. The Benediction was given by Rev. Don Ingersoll, followed by Doxology. The organist - Cedric Landers; Pianist - Paul Mullen; The Pallbearers were: Rev. Wayne Blinn, Rev. Dale MacDonald, Rev. Mel Norton, Rev. Glen McVicar, Rev. John den Hollander; and Danny McElman. The internment followed at the Browns Flat Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiated by Rev. Wayne Briggs and Rev. David McElhinney. The arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex, NB.
