Gladys Mary Smith AMHERST - The death of Gladys Mary Smith, age 86, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Monday, October 15, 2007 after a short illness. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the Late Blair and Matilda (Cormier) Lirette. A cook, she was employed with the Interprovincial School For the Deaf until her retirement. She is a member of the Holy Family Parish, Amherst and was a lover of bingo and cards. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Sharon (Allison) Wilson, Jolicure, NB; 2 sisters, Melvina LeBlanc and Audrey Lirette, both of Amherst; 2 grandchildren, Jason (Terrie) and Angela; 1 great grandchild, Dominick. She was predeceased by partner Rufus Niles and by numerous brothers and sisters. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong ~ Jones Funeral Home, 68 Church St, Amherst (902-667-8777). A memorial Mass will be celebrated, Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 10 am at St. Charles site of the Holy Family Parish, Amherst, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial will take place in St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery. No visitation by request.
