H. Gordon Chesley

AMHERST - Peacefully, on Saturday, July 5, 2008, H. Gordon Chesley, passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre at the age of 94. Born in New Germany, N.S., in 1914, he was a son of the late Horton P. and Clementine (Selden) Chesley. Gordon was a life-long farmer and drove a school bus for many years. He was the last remaining firefighter from the original New Germany Fire Department, and an avid visitor to all of the Amherst car dealerships. Gordon was always and will forever be a true gentleman. He will be sadly missed by his wife Leonore "Lea"; several nieces and a nephew, Barbara, Chilliwack, B.C.; Pamela, Bridgetown; Margaret, Toronto; Lynne, Lunenburg; Ruth, Herring Cove; Linda, Beaverbank; Stacey and Deborah, Lower Sackville; and Jim, Tantallon. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by sister Laura Stinton and brother Seldon, as well as his first wife Margaret Wile. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (667-8777). At Gordon's request, there will be no local visitation or funeral service. The New Germany Fire Department will be holding a memorial graveside service at the Lutheran Cemetery in New Germany on July 26 at 2 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation may do so to the Cancer Society, or the Cumberland Regional Health Care Foundation. www.furlongjones.ca
