Harold Orland McDonald SPRINGHILL - Harold Orland McDonald, 79, of Junction Road, Springhill, passed away at his residence on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Albert and Lillian (Parent) McDonald. He served in the Korean War with the Royal Canadian Regiment, Parachute Battalion, returning to Springhill where he worked in the coal mines. In 1956, he re-enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and served 28 years as Warrant Officer with the Field Engineer Squadron. Following his retirement, he worked at All Saints Hospital for another 15 years. He was a member of Atlantic Retired Sapper Assoc. and The Korean War Vet Assoc., the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 17, Springhill and the Cumberland Lodge No. 5, Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Amherst Shore, collecting photos and reading about the monarchy and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by sons Harold (Marlene Lake) McDonald Jr. of Oxford and Thomas Angus (Rosemary) McDonald of Springhill; daughter Debbi (Bruce) Troke of Oromocto, N.B.; special friend Marjorie Davis, Springhill; brothers Thomas Ormand McDonald of Springhill and Albert McDonald; sister June Hunter of Springhill; three grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife the former Viola "Lillian" MacDonald; sister Ethel Budd. Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 16 in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, from where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 17 with Pastor Scott Balser officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
