Helen 'Betty' MacDonald RIVER HEBERT - Helen "Betty" MacDonald, age 96, of River Hebert, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre March 24, 2008. Born in River Hebert in 1911, she was a daughter of the late John and Ellen (Dickinson) Barton. Betty was an active lifelong member of the Trinity United Church, River Hebert, serving as choir member, caretaker, congregational secretary, and Sunday School teacher. A brilliant lady with a great memory, she was full of stories about her community and its people. Beyond the church, her life centred around her family, her children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all their extended families. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Joan Scopie, River Hebert; son Kenneth "Gerry" (Linda), Riverview; 7 grandchildren, Larry, Betty Anne, Jim, Bruce, Ricky, Patti and John; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and her wide circle of friends. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth; the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Arrangements have been entrusted to the River Hebert & Joggins Community Funeral Home, (902-251-2877). Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in the River Hebert Cemetery in the spring.
