EDGAR BURNS GETCHELL

GETCHELL, EDGAR BURNS - The death of Edgar Burns Getchell of St. Stephen occurred on February 14, 2006 at the Charlotte County Hospital. Born 1910 in St. Stephen he was the son of the late Nelson and Margaret (Kennedy) Getchell. Burns was a member of the Loyalist City Amateur Radio Club, St. Croix Valley Amateur Radio Club and held Callsign VEICL for 75 years. He was the first New Brunswicker elected to the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame. He is survived by his loving daughter Linda Johnson (Robert) of Saint John; two grandchildren Robert Johnson Silver Spring, Maryland and Heather Johnson-Thibeau (Marcel) of Saint John; and two great grandchildren Hunter and Macey Thibeau; his devoted care-giver of many years Penny McCray, and her family Marc, Allyssa and Jaxon; two sisters-in-law Margaret Splane and Mary Burns both of Saint John; brother-in-law Edward Shannon of Saint John and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Theresa (Shannon) Getchell and sister Phyllis Getchell Price. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, (646-2424) with visitations on Friday February 17, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday February 18, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery in the spring.
