GRETTA KATHELINE CHRISTIE

CHRISTIE, GRETTA KATHELINE - Gretta Katheline Christie passed away peacefully with her family and friends by her side on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Dr. Chalmer's Hospital in Fredericton. She was the wife of the late William D. Christie. Born 1921 in Burtt's Corner, NB she was the daughter of the late Wellington and Mina (Gallagher) Allen. Loving mother of Linda Hazlett of Fredericton and Lana Sponagle (Don) of Prince George, BC. Survived also by sisters, Mina Lyons (Arthur) of Fredericton, Bertha Goodine of Fredericton, and Eleanor Garry (Thomas) of Breckin, ON; brother, James Allen (Myrna) of Fredericton; nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by sisters, Shirley Watson, and Jean Muchey; brothers Percy Allen, Gerald Allen and John Allen. Gretta served with the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II. Following her husband's retirement from the Armed Forces they moved to Saint John where Gretta was employed as an adjuster with Co-Op Insurance for many years. Gretta was a true nature lover and her happiest times were spent enjoying the great outdoors. She loved to fish, hunt, bird watch, golf and spent copious hours working in her beautiful and bountiful gardens, which were her pride and joy. She also derived great pleasure from collecting old bottles and antiques. Auctions, yard and garage sales were frequently on her weekly agenda. Gretta brought sunshine to all she knew and will be sadly missed. Following cremation, visitations will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
