W. DOUGLAS BURNS

BURNS, W. DOUGLAS - Douglas Burns, 82 of Public Landing, NB passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his family on Monday, March 5th 2007. Born in 1924 in St. Stephen he was the son of the late Raymond and Helen (Scott) Burns. He was a WWII Veteran serving in Europe and England with the Medic Corp General Hospital #12 between 1942-1945. After he returned home he began working for the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital. After 38 years of service he retired in 1984. Doug was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #9, St. Stephen. In his retirement days he especially enjoyed traveling with his wife, bowling with the Recycled Teenagers, watching baseball, hockey and the beautiful view from his front windows. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (McCartney) Burns of Public Landing; eldest daughter Karen Noel (David) of Edmonton, AB, one son Larry Burns (Debby) of Grand Bay-Westfeild, NB and youngest daughter Kathleen Burns (Murrel) of Moores Mills, NB; grandchildren Brenda Cunningham (Paul) of Calgary, AB; David Williams (Karmin) of Edmonton, AB, Scott Burns of Saint John, NB and Michael Burns of Grand Bay-Westfeild, NB; step-granddaughters Jody Bishop (Tim) of St. Stephen, NB and Michelle Albert of Aroostock, NB; six great-grandchildren; one brother William Burns (Shirley) of St. Stephen; one sister Jean Davis of Oak Bay, NB; nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Melvin Burns; and a sister Jacqueline Hanson. Visitation will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home on Friday March 9th, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Legion Tribute beginning at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 10th, 2007 at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
