MACKEEN, JOHN STEWART - 75, Granville Ferry, N.S., formerly of St. Andrews, N.B. and Rothesay, N.B. passed away Friday April 6, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Husband of Anne (Jefferson), younger son of the late Dr. and Mrs. R.A.H. Mackeen of Rothesay. Survived, besides his wife, by his sister, Mary Spencer, Somerset, England; niece, Jennifer and her daughter, Anna; and by nephews, Simon and Robert. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Robert. John taught English Literature for many years at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John. He and his artist wife, Anne, loved gardening and the outdoor activities. John was very fond of a succession of Cairn Terriers. John will be sorely missed by his many friends. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday May 1 in St. George's Church, Carleton, on the lower West Side in Saint John, N.B., The Reverend Howard Anningson officiating. Ashes will be scattered at a later date at some of John's favorite places throughout England and the Maritimes. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Historic Gardens, 441 St. George St., Annapolis Royal.
