H. BENSON MAWHINNEY

MAWHINNEY, H. BENSON - H. Benson Mawhinney 91, of the Veterans Health Centre and formerly of Hedgewood Drive, Moncton passed away at his residence on Wednesday February 28, 2007. Born in Chance Harbour he was the son of the late Herbert and Addie May (Estey) Mawhinney. Benson was retired from BF Goodrich Ltd, Moncton, a charter member of Brentwood Baptist Church and former Church Deacon with many years service. He was a member of Union Lodge of Portland #10 F & AM, Luxor Shrine Temple, Sir Knights of Saint John Demolay Preceptory #32, North West Commercial Travelers Association and Moncton Legion #6. He was a veteran of the 2nd World War, served overseas as a Bomber Pilot with the Royal Air Force. Benson will be sadly missed by his daughters, Barbara Tait (Dale), Moncton; Beth Shaw (Mike), St. Margaret's Bay, NS; son, Dick (Edna), Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Betty (Cameron) Mawhinney (1990), son, Jonathan Paul; infant daughter, Joyce Patricia; sisters, Irene Page; Louise Brown and brother, Paul. Moncton Legion #6 Veteran's Service on Saturday April 14, 2007, at 11am followed by a Memorial Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Rev. Brent Hudson officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery. In Benson's memory, donations to Canadian Diabetic Association or Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
