SYLVIA EDNA SUTTON
SUTTON, SYLVIA EDNA - The death of Sylvia Edna (Dunn) Sutton occurred on April 17, 2007, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gordon A. Sutton, and daughter of the late Leonard and Mina (Corbett) Dunn. Sylvia was born on March 15, 1909, at Dunn's Corner, NB, which is now part of Base Gagetown. After the rest of the family had left the family farm, Sylvia remained at home for many years, assisting her parents. Later, she worked in Saint John for a few years as a home maker. She and Gordon married in 1948, and moved to Summer Hill which was also in what is now the Base. In 1953, when the farm lands in that area were expropriated for Base Gagetown, the Suttons moved to Upper Gagetown, where they built their home and became involved in community life there. Sylvia was a member of St. George's Anglican Church in Upper Gagetown, and a life member of St. George's Church Guild. She was very musical (something which she inherited from her father who was a well known fiddler) and having studied organ, she became the organist at her church and continued to play nearly every Sunday for the next 29 years. Sylvia also loved to dance and attended local dances where she excelled at square dancing. In 2000 she moved to the Gagetown Special Care Home, where she quickly became one of the favorite tenants, and where she received wonderful care for the last seven years. Her great sense of humour helped her maintain a very optimistic attitude all her life and was evident right up to her final days. She is survived by one nephew, Norman and Ina (Chestnut) Armstrong, Apohaqui; four nieces, Betty (Charlton) and Wilfrid Dean, Saint John, Margaret (Dunn) and Christopher Graham, Grand Bay-Westfield, Anne (Dunn) and Douglas Smith, California, and Brenda (Dunn) and Stephen Ough, Saint John; and several grand nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends; Margaret and (James) Cruickshank, Beatrice McIntyre, and Ella and Cecil Coy. She was predeceased by an infant son, Brian Gordon Sutton; two brothers, John and Harry (Hazel) Dunn; and two sisters, Olive (Nelson) Charlton and Zelda (Donald ) Armstrong; and niece, Jean (Charlton) Greer; and nephew, Gordon Charlton. She is resting at Sherwood's Funeral Home (839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, with visiting Thursday, from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Sherwood's Chapel, on Friday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in Ocean View Cemetery. www.sherwoodsfuneralhome.com
