DORIS MAY KERNIGHAN

KERNIGHAN, DORIS MAY - Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on June 7th, 2007, Mrs. Doris May (Pierce) Kernighan, wife of the late John Samuel Kernighan of St. George NB. Born in Sussex, England on June 16th, 1923 she was a daughter of the late Harry and Daisy Pierce. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by four sons, John (Barbara) Kernighan of Fredericton NB, David (Sheila) Kernighan of St. George NB, Gary (Dawn) Kernighan and Michael (Karen) Kernighan both of Blacks Harbour NB; four daughters, Pearl Ann (William) Haley of St. Stephen NB, Ethel (Robert) Smith of Saint John NB, Sharon (Kenneth) Montgomery of St. Stephen NB and Heather (Dwayne) Hooper of Blacks Harbour NB; 17 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris was predeceased by her husband, John; one daughter, Carol; one son, Kevin; one grandson, Jason; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Montgomery; three sisters and one brother. Doris served in the Land Army in England during the Second World War, and came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride. She was an avid dart player and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #40 in St. George as well as a member of the Eastern Charlotte Lion's Club. She loved her grandchildren and knitting and gardening. By Doris's request there will be no visitation held. A memorial service will be held from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, St. George NB on Sunday at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Jack Willet officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in St. George. Donations to the Charlotte County Local Food Banks or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
