Dorothy 'Doe' Lambert

86, Glace Bay Dorothy Katherine Lambert, 86, formerly of Collins Street, Glace Bay, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex. Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late William and Teresa Gouthro. A longtime sports enthusiast, Doe, in her younger years, was an avid swimmer, enjoyed many other sports and, at age 15, was a member of the Nova Scotia Women’s championship softball team. She was also an active leader in the Brownies and Girl Guide movement. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary for 18 years; a member of the Home and School Association of St. Anne’s and St. Michael’s for 13 years. At Holy Cross, she sang with the mixed choir; served with the Altar Society; and was the organist and soloist for more than 30 years. Dorothy was also a member of the St. Anne’s ladies choir. She and her husband, Ike, were very much a part of The Men of the Deeps. She will be remembered throughout the community for her kindness and generosity. Dorothy was also involved with the Liberal Association. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Bert (Louise), Bras d’Or, and Eymard (Sheila), Ottawa; daughters, Norma (Sander) MacMullin, Sydney, and Ave Maria (Ken) Lavoie, Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Ian, Scott and Kristi, Kelly Ann and Jason, Shauna, Tanya and David; three great-grandchildren, Kyra, Morgan and Ashley; sister, Eileen Curtis, brother, Frank (Marian) Gouthro, both of North Sydney; and sister-in-law, Tula Gouthro, St. Peter’s. She was predeceased by her husband, Ike, daughter, Carol, and two brothers, Aubrey and Bert. Visitation will be held tomorrow (Friday) 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, 11 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Rev. Bill Rankin officiating. Private family interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
