THOMAS LAIRD DELONG

DELONG, THOMAS LAIRD - Thomas Laird DeLong went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on August 8th, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, at the age of 63. Tom is survived by his partner, Ruthann Galbraith; his mother, Mabel Elisa (Seely) DeLong; Alice (Mowatt) DeLong mother of Tom's four sons, Larry (Annie) DeLong of Saint John, Frederick DeLong of Saint John, Brian DeLong of Brown's Flat and Wayne DeLong of Ontario; three brothers, Borden (Marilyn) DeLong of Brown's Flat, Gary (Elaine) DeLong of Saint John and Harold (Brenda) DeLong of Lower Greenwich; one sister, Sandra (Edward) Jefferson of Grand Bay-Westfield; six grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Nicole, Sarah, Timothi and Codie; several nieces, nephews; and one aunt. Tom's extended family was his partner Ruthann Galbraith's children, Scott (Kim) Hurley, Katharine (Adonia) Chiasson, Joanne Edison, Heather (Brad) Calhoun; and five grandchildren, Shannon, Jill, Brandon, Bria and Paige. Tom was predeceased by his dad, Roy Laird DeLong; and daughter-in-law, Elaine. He was employed for 27 years as a truck driver for Shamrock Truss & Components; previously Tom drove truck for several other companies and served in the Armed Forces. Tom was District Commander of the District of the Royal Canadian Legion and also served as President of Greenwich Branch # 87, was Past President of Ducks Unlimited, former Fire Chief of Greenwich Fire Department and volunteered as a licensed Auctioneer for many benefits to help the needs of others. A couple of Tom's favorite past times were playing darts and hunting in Hibernia. A heart felt thank-you to the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital who were truly wonderful. Funeral arrangements are under the professional care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John NB. (646-2424) With visitations being held on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 pm and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11th, 2007 at 11 am from the River Valley Wesleyan Church. A private family interment will be held at a later date in Brown's Flat Baptist Cemetery following cremation. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Melanoma Research) or to the charity of donor's choice.
