MR. JOSEPH (JOE) COOK

COOK, MR. JOSEPH (JOE) - Mr. Joseph (Joe) Cook of St Michael's St. Miramichi passed away on Friday, August 17th at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 88. Born in Chatham the son of the late Patrick and Brigette (Flynn) Cook. Joe was a honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, Charter member of the Miramichi Irish Society, a member of the Miramichi Golf and Country Club, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Air Force, a member of Legion Branch #3, a member of 254 Wing. He received the Queens Silver Jubilee Metal, he worked on the First Commission for the Town of Chatham to control all of its public recreation facilities. He was a director of the Chatham Rink Association and the Chatham Ironmen Baseball League. He was the Co-manager of the Thomas College Tommies and was the manager of the Lord Beaverbrook Arena. He served on the Select Committee for the New Brunswick Hall of Fame and was instrumental in the building of the Ironmen Baseball field and its lights. He was recognized as a Builder to the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame. He coached the Midget Provincial Champions, the Midget Maritime Champions and the Ironmen Senior Champoinships. He was president of the New Brunswick Hockey, a Minor Hockey League Convener. He was a member of the school board, Past President of St Michael's Parish Committee. He was a member of the Men's Bowling League and the legion Bowling League. He was retired from the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission where he was the Manager and District Supervisor. He was recognized for 37 years of service and was a member of the 25 year Club with N.B. Power. He was an assistant Scout Master and he completed the National Coaches Certification Program Level II. Mr. Joseph Cook is survived by several cousins. Mr. Joseph Cook is resting at Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi, NB, on Sunday, August 19th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 am from St Michael's Basilica with Fr John Fraser officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
