91, Sydney Violet May Crane, 91, a resident of Fisherman’s Cove, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, formerly of French Street, Whitney Pier, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late John and Agnes (Strickland) Hurd. Violet was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and retired from the Salvation Army Grace Haven Home. Surviving are her daughters, Joyce (Don) Musgrave, Viola ‘Snookie’ Carew, Beverly (Charles) Foley and Patricia (Franco) Casagrande, all of Sydney, and Pauline Cocco, Halifax; son, Frank (Ruby) Russell, Ontario; sisters, Lorraine Hurd, Shirley Fiander and Betty Hurd, all of North Sydney; brother, Bill, Brantford, Ont.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Violet was predeceased by her husband, Albert in October 1994, sister, Margaret Lewis, brothers, Ken and Albert, sons-in-law, Robert Cocco, Bernie Carew and Stan MacLean. The staff and residents of Fisherman’s Cove, St. Anne’s Bay will miss seeing Violet sitting in her wheelchair. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church Furnace Fund or a charity of choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Murdock Smith, Dr. Glen Gracie and the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the excellent care Violet received over the years.
