C. HAROLD LAWRENCE

LAWRENCE, C. HAROLD - The death of C. Harold Lawrence, husband of Gwen (Palfrey) Lawrence of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007. Born in Falmouth, NS, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Lockhart) Lawrence. Harold is survived by his loving wife, Gwen, and their son, John and his wife, Mary Murphy; and four loving grandchildren, Benjamin, Madeleine, Jacob and Timothy; two sisters, Christina Lawrence of Halifax, NS, and Geraldine (Mack) Buchanon of Moncton, NB; and one brother, Major Arthur G. Lawrence (Melba) of Hantsport, NS; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Georgina (Wilcox) Lawrence of Halifax, NS. After graduating from Windsor High School, Harold spent three years in the Royal Canadian Navy and served in the following Theatres of War: The Battle of the Atlantic, The North African Campaign, and The Pacific Campaign, serving on Corvettes and the H.M.C.S. Uganda. Following the war, he pursued advanced studies at McGill University in Montreal receiving a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Plant Pathology. He joined the Federal Department of Agriculture Research Centre in Lincoln where he applied his knowledge to solving plant disease problems in laboratory research. He was awarded an honorary life membership in the Canadian Phytopathology Society for his outstanding contribution to Plant Pathology. He was an active adherent of Wilmot United Church serving as an Elder and a Steward. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 in Fredericton. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will take place at Wilmot United Church on Sunday, October 7th, 2007 at 2:00 PM with The Rev. Dr. Peter Short officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a tribute service during the memorial service. A reception will take place immediately following in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date in his wife's family plot in Bridgetown, NS. In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, donations made to the Wilmot United Church, The Parkinson's Foundation or the charity of the donors choice.
