ALTA RUTH BETTS

BETTS, ALTA RUTH - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alta Betts of Minto announces her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Jan 11, 2008. Born On Oct 11, 1927 at Maple Ridge (Millville) to parents Harry and Edna (Stairs) Bradley, Alta Began teaching in one room schools at the age of 15. From 1946 to 49 she attended Emmanuel Bible School at Newcastle Bridge where she made lifelong friends and met her husband Spurgeon Betts with whom she spent 55 years of happiness. She attended teachers college in 1957- 58. Alta enjoyed 35 years of teaching in public schools of New Brunswick and she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association since 1982. Alta took great joy in meeting former students and feeling their love and admiration. She was a strong supporter of her church, missions and of people in need. During the 57 years she attended Christian Community Church she served as pianist and organist for 40 years, taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Secretary-Treasurer and Secretary-Treasurer of the church. Alta loved traveling, antiquing, reading, knitting and being with her family and friends. Her youthful spirit allowed her to make deep friendships that crossed generational lines. Alta will be sadly missed by her daughter, Bonnie and son-in-law, Brian, Marks, Rothesay, two granddaughters, Tara Moore, Saint John, and by two precious great grandsons, Heath and Kaelan McDade. She was the dear sister of Arnold, Alfred, (Dorothy) Ivan, (Bessie) and Eugene, (Margaret) Bradley of Millville and Cyril Scott, (Bessie) of Lower Hainesville and dear friend, Edna Pollock of Chipman. She was sister-in-law to Marven (Gretchen) Betts, Betty Betts and Mildred McPhee and she was survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Dottie. Beside her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Garnet and Lorne and by sisters, Jenny Jones, Phyllis Thompson, Anna Brown and Cora Wheaton. Resting at Minto Funeral Home, Minto New Brunswick visiting will be held on Sunday Jan 13th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral services will be held Monday January 14th, 2008 at 2pm at Christian Community Church, Newcastle Bridge. Internment will take place in the Full Gospel Pentecostal Cemetery, Minto. Donations in Memory of Alta may be made to Christian Community Church, Full Gospel Pentecostal Cemetery, The Heart and Stoke foundation or the Parkinson's Society. www.mintofh.com
