HAMMOND, EDITH COLLEEN - age 96, passed away Wednesday, March 26th, 2008, at the, Kings Way Care Center. Born on June 27th, 1912, in Saint John West, she was the daughter of the late Charles Oliver and Mary Blanche (Smith) Mabee. Edith started work at the age of 16 working for Judge Arthur Anglin for a number of years. She then worked for many legal firms throughout Saint John. Edith was also a secretary to a member of the Federal Parliament and a member of the Provincial Legislator, Walter V. Foster. She retired at the age of 74 from managing the Legal Aid Office in Saint John. Edith was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surviving are son, Foster (Margie Sydney), Saint John; grandchildren, Jennifer, Margot and Michael; great grandchildren, Rebecca Jane, Meaghan Anne and Micky Joseph. She was predeceased by husband, William Mason Hammond; son, Mark; in infancy, sister, Marion Saunderson and brothers, Murray, George, Gordon and Frederick. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 28th, 2008, in Castle Funeral Home "Fallsview Chapel" (634-1701), 309 Lancaster Avenue. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery.
