ISABELLE CHRISTINE (1920 - 2008) MacLEOD
MacLEOD, ISABELLE CHRISTINE (1920 - 2008) - Isabelle passed away peacefully in Hampton, New Brunswick at the home of her only sister on March 25, 2008 where she had been lovingly cared for over the past 4 years by Lori McGale, Lois Kilpatrick and Joan Hodgin. Isabelle was born in New Victoria, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to the late John A. and Jessie MacLeod. She grew up and attended schools in New Waterford and Sydney, graduating from Sydney Academy and Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax. Her nursing career included positions at Inverness Hospital, Inverness, N.S., Sydney City Hospital and Sydney's Royal Avenue Hospital before moving to New York City in the mid 1950s, where she worked as a neonatal nurse and supervisor at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center until her retirement in 1984. Isabelle was a voracious non-fiction reader of topics ranging from history, geography and culture to biography and royalty. She traveled extensively across all continents except Antarctica, sharing her knowledge and love of traveling with all of her family and friends. Her generous and caring spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by one brother, John (Shirley) of Dartmouth, NS; one sister, Sandy Callaghan of Hampton, NB and long time friend, Muriel Darby of Sydney and New York City. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom considered her their "other mother", as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, David, Russell, King, Roy ("Lefty") and John A. as well as niece, Shauna MacLeod and nephew, Stephen MacLeod. Throughout her life, Isabelle was active in her churches; St Andrew's United Church in Sydney and Fort Washington Collegiate Church in New York City. Remembering her beloved Scots heritage, we say: "HOLDFAST MACLEOD", Rest Well. Arrangements are under the direction of Reid's Funeral Home in Hampton, N.B. Cremation has taken place.
