McELMAN, MICHAEL (MIKE) H. - Michael (Mike) H. McElman of Riverview passed away at the Moncton Hospital, on Friday April 18, 2008 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mike is survived by his wife, Freda (Wood); daughter, Cindy (Ron Arsenault) of Moncton; son, Scott (Laura) of Bedford, NS; and cherished granddaughters, Katelyn, Julia and Emily; sisters, Lynn Adair (Ezra) of Kamloops, BC, Beth McElman of Aurora, ON; brothers, Bob (Joan) Kingston, NS, Don (Joyce) Quispamsis, NB; sister-in-law, Hazel Peppard, Truro, NS; brother-in-law, Lewis (Bert) Wood London, ON; several nieces and nephews. Born in Fredericton on June 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Hanford and Nancy (Kitchen). Mike grew up in South Devon, graduating from Fredericton High School in 1956. After high school he joined the CNR as a machinist apprentice, retiring from CN in 1991 as a supervisor. Mike spent many happy summers with his family trailering and at the cottage at Grand Lake. During the winters, he bowled in the CN mens and mixed leagues and participated in the CN Todd Bowling Tournament for forty years. In later years, he took up golfing with fellow CN workers and brothers Bob and Don. Mike was a Mason and member of Coverdale Masonic Lodge #52, serving as past master in 1988 and treasurer from 2000-2008. A Masonic service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:45 PM. Visitation will take place at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Tuesday from 7 to 9, the funeral service will take place at Cobb's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Wednesday at 1:30 PM with Rev. Jonathan Gorham officiating. Donations to the friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation (Oncology Department) or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
