MERRITT, GLADYS - Gladys Merritt, wife of the late Ronald H. Merritt of Saint John passed away on May 2, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Grate's Cove, Newfoundland and was the daughter of the late Elias (Alex) and Elizabeth (Vey) Ivany. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by one son, Paul Wayne Merritt; and one brother, Leslie G. Ivany. Gladys was united by faith and was a long time adherent to Grace Presbyterian, the former St. John-St. Stephen Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters (Loyalist Temple # 13) and the Orange Order and in her earlier years she worked at MRA's and Sears Warehouse. Gladys is survived by one daughter, Janet (Don) Shea of Rothesay; grandson, Trevor (Jenny) of Rothesay; and granddaughter, Lisa of Lower Sackville, NS. She was a special "Nana" to great grandson, Logan, who was the apple of her eye. Also survived by one brother, Percy (Eileen) Ivany of Saint John; special cousin, Lil Nordstrom; and her daughter, Marilyn Dalton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Resting at the Cavanagh Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street (634-1712) with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 6, 2008 at 2:00 pm in Cavanagh's Chapel followed by a reception and interment in Fernhill Cemetery.
