RICHARDS, PERCY E. "TURK" - The death of Percy E. "Turk" Richards of Saint John, NB, husband of Joyce (Jones) Richards occurred on May 8, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB on May 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Percy and Violet (Bright) Richards. Percy was employed with the Saint John Sugar Refinery for several years before joining Rothesay Paper Ltd. in 1965. He worked there for 24 years before he retired from the Mechanics Department in 1989. Percy also enjoyed a career as an amateur and a professional boxer between the years of 1940-1948, losing only 3 fights out of 85. After retiring his boxing gloves he chose to coach the children in his community for many years. Percy enjoyed traveling in his motor home but his favorite past-time was rebuilding and fixing cars. He also loved to play TV Bingo, fish, hunt and garden, but he was happiest when he was surrounded by the laughter of his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, an amazing father, a graceful grand-dad and a dedicated friend whom will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Percy is survived by his wife, Joyce for what would have been 57 years on December 28, 2008. 11 children; sons, Percy Jr. (Sheila), David (Cathy), Tim (Valerie) all of Regina, SK, Wayne (Rose), Darrell (Bessie), Richard (Darlene), Keith (Joanie) of Saint John, NB; daughters, Marietta of Regina, SK, Monica Roy (Peter), Vanessa Stone (Daniel), Tracey (Andrew) of Saint John, NB; 25 grandchildren, Jason, Shanna, Jeffery, Tabitha, Nickolas, Penny-rae, Jessica, Ben, Blake, Tiffany, Wayne Jr., Kirk, Dan, Darrell, Josh, Jantina, Trent, Darien, Layla, Wesley, Tamara, Lara, Brandon, Renee, Jordan and Evan; six great grandchildren Aailyiah, Noah, Julianna, Dakota, Rayne and Summer; and many nieces and nephews; brothers William (Phyllis) of Southville, NS, Raymond (Barbara), Peter (Linda) of Weymouth, NS, Vincent, James (Darlene) of Saint John, NB, Stanley Robarts (Maureen) of Southville, NS; sisters, Hilda Turvey (Bill) of Halifax, NS, Patricia Grant (Walter) of Sydney, NS, Helen McKinney, Evelyn Stevens of Saint John, NB and Diane Jones (Charles) of St. Louis. Predeceased by two sisters Margaret "Peggy" Lockerbie and Janet Wood; and sister-in-law, Lillian Richards. By request there will be no visitations. A Memorial Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Monday May 12, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
