LORRAINE EMMA (1934 SMITH
SMITH, LORRAINE EMMA (1934 - 2008) -The passing of Lorraine Emma Smith from this life to life eternal with her Lord occurred on May 22 at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a short illness. Lorraine was born in South Side, Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia on November 23, 1934, the daughter of the late Wellington and Gertrude (Townsend) Cox. Lorraine has been a resident of Saint John since the early 1960's; she was an employee for several years of Calp's Department Store in uptown Saint John. In recent years she and her husband have been resident caretakers of Windcrest Bible Camp on the Damascus Road, owned and operated by Fundamental Baptist Church. Lorraine was a wonderful camp cook and a substitute mother to hundreds of children and young people who attended summer camps. She was especially famous far and wide by both young and old for her mouth-watering rolls and biscuits. She ran a "tight" kitchen at camp and her ministry and tireless energy there will be greatly missed. Lorraine also served faithfully in her church in several capacities - among them as Missions Secretary and Contributions Records Secretary, and in the Senior Choir. Lorraine is survived by Frank, her husband of 55 years, by one son Richard and his wife Nancy of Mispec, NB, and by one daughter June (Donnie) Messenger of Nova Scotia. She is also survived by six sisters - Myrna Cox, Georgina Nickerson, Catherine (Sterling) Ross, Krysteane (Gary) Rapp, Adelle (Bobby Dale) Atkinson, and Donna (Ronnie) Goodwin, all of Nova Scotia. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Brian and Carroll. She was a beloved "Nan" to six grandsons - Timothy (Becky), Jonathan (Ann), Richard, Daniel (Melinda), Keith, and Samuel, all of Saint John. Her memory is also honoured in four great-grand children - Josiah, Joanna, Jenna, and Taylor. Visitation with the family will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424), on Saturday and Sunday May 24th and 25th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Fundamental Baptist Church, 885 Danells Drive, Saint John West on Monday May 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held at the church followed by interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fundamental Baptist Windcrest Bible Camp Fund, 885 Danells Drive, Saint John, NB E2M 5A9 or to the charity of choice.
