BRENDA R. CANNELL
CANNELL, BRENDA R. - The death of Brenda R. Cannell of Hampton, wife of Hugh Cannell occurred June 26, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Edmundston, daughter of Robert and Lavona (Bourgeois) Violette of Edmundston. Despite terminal cancer, Brenda held onto life tenaciously and enjoyed her family and friends, taking trips to Key West and Bermuda and holding on to see her son graduate from high school. Brenda's academic achievements included a B.Sc. (General ) U.N.B. 1977; Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), NBCC 1979 and B.Ed. with Honours UNB 1984. Brenda worked as an MLT in New Brunswick from 1979 to 1983 and as a French Immersion teacher from 1984 until 2007 when she retired because of cancer. Brenda taught at Milledgeville North, Quispamsis Junior and Hampton Junior High schools, and completed her career as a math and science immersion teacher at Hampton High, teaching principally grades nine and ten for 10 years. Brenda traveled extensively. She liked sports, such as swimming, scuba diving and skiing, and had many hobbies; like gardening, interior decoration and reading. Brenda was well-known as an excellent chef and home entertainer. Most of all; her warmth, generosity and genuine interest in others won her many loyal and long-lasting friends. Brenda is survived by her husband, Hugh Cannell, Hampton, NB; one daughter, Sarah Cannell Westphal (Jonathan), Hampton, NB; one son, Robert, at home; her parents, Robert and Lavona (Bourgeois) Violette, Edmundston; three sisters, Jacqueline and Elaine Violette both of Edmundston, NB, Cindy Emond (Charles), Ottawa, ON; two brothers, Wayne and Gary Violette, both of Edmundston, NB; several nieces and nephews. Visitation at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, will take place 7 to 9pm Saturday and 2 to 4pm & 7 to 9pm Sunday with vigil prayers, Sunday at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 10:00am, at St. Alphonsus Church, Hampton. Cremation will be followed by interment in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorials to Ellen-Anne Flynn Memorial Scholarship, Clary J. Wilbur Memorial Scholarship or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
