WILBERT "WIB" MANSON CHENEY
CHENEY, WILBERT "WIB" MANSON - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on July 8th, 2008, Mr. Wilbert "Wib" Manson Cheney, husband of Mrs. A. Pearl (Hobbs) Cheney of Pennfield NB. Born at Grand Harbour, Grand Manan NB on November 27, 1921, he was a son of the late Austin and Leona (Allen) Cheney. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, he is survived by his wife, Pearl; three sons, Vance (Emily) Cheney of St. Stephen NB, Carl Cheney and Brian (Sonja) Cheney both of Pennfield; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; one half sister, Maude Morse of Grand Manan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Lysle Cheney. Before his retirement, Wib worked for Connors Bros. for a number of years. In 1967 he went to work at the new Blacks Harbour Arena where he was employed for more than 20 years as caretaker and arena manager. Wib will always be remembered as a hard worker who spent many weekends and weekdays running the day to day operation of the arena and who could be seen circling the ice on the Zamboni and sharpening hundred's of pairs of skates for many youths and adults throughout the area. Wib also enjoyed woodworking and taking nature walks. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB from where the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Thursday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating. Visiting at the funeral home will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
