WILLIAM R. (BILL) MACKAY

MACKAY, WILLIAM R. (BILL) - Passed away on July 22, 2008 in his 90th year at the Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, ON, with his wife of 67 years, Molly (Margaret Elizabeth Warner) at his side. Bill was born to Malcolm Mackay and Daphne Crosby and lived the first 75 years of his life in Rothesay, NB. He and his brother, Malcolm (Mickey) worked together for 40 years as owners of Mackay Forest Products until Bill retired. Bill and Molly raised their family of 4 children in what was originally named the Belleview Hotel but was known locally as "Bircholme". It was a wonderful home and kept Bill busy working on his gardens during summer evenings or in his basement working on his carpentry projects during the winter months. With the children grown, and the yearn to travel, Bill and Molly sold this home in 1978 to begin a time of relaxation and pleasure. He and Molly build a smaller home in Rothesay, wintered on Sanibel Island, Florida and took a major trip to different parts of the world each year for the next 15 years. In 1994, Bill and Molly moved to Cobourg to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his wife Molly; his four children, Reay (Lynda), Sondy (Michael), Bruce (Joanne) and Margaux; his six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Bill will be buried in Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, NB on Friday, August 29 at 10:30 am with a reception to follow at Shadowland for family and friends.
