LOVETT EDWARD RAYMOND WINCHESTER
WINCHESTER, LOVETT EDWARD RAYMOND - 95, Smith's Cove, Digby Co., passed away August 12, 2008 in Northhills Nursing Home, Annapolis County. Born July 30, 1913, he was a son of the late Lovett and Mary (Dowley) Winchester. He was a veteran of the Second World War having served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, where he attained the rank of Foreman of Signals W.O.1. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge Order A.F. & A.M. of Bear River, Eureka Chapter No. 5, Annapolis Royal and the Austin Bentley Council as well as the Royal and Select Masters. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 22, Bear River, and was Councillor for District #8 of Digby Municipality for six years. During this period, he was primarily instrumental in establishing the Municipal Airport in Hillgrove. He was a member of the Smith's Cove United Baptist Church and leader of the men's choir for many years. Before his retirement to Smith's Cove, he owned and operated the Pine Cone Motel in Penobsquis, NB. He is survived by daughters, Rae (Mrs. Angus MacKenzie), Bedford, Janis (Mrs. Clayton Marriott), Tillsonburg, ON; son, Lovett "Budd" (Kathryn) Winchester, Cornwallis Park; brother, Paul (Muriel) Winchester, Dartmouth; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Mary (Walker) Winchester; sisters, Verge Vanzoost, Edith Harvie, Lovell Manuel; and three infant sons. Cremation has taken place. A Masonic Lodge Service and a Graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
