GARNETT, DOUGLAS - The death of Douglas Garnett of Saint John, NB, husband of Candace Garnett, occurred on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Saint John on November 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Daniel and Laura (McCarther) Garnett. He loved his cars and his fishing and hunting trips. Douglas was an avid baseball player and a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leaf's. He is survived by his wife, Candace; three sons, Wayne (Wanda) of St. Martins, NB, Mark (Rosanne) of Saint John and Paul Howlett (Lisa) of Antigonish, NS; four daughters, Marilyn (Teddy) Rankin of Fairfield, NB; Donna (Wayne) Nicholls of Musquash; Marilyn Gilbert of Quispamsis and Laurie (Terry Cameron) Garnett of Saint John; three step-children, James (Barbara) Howlett of Sussex, NB, Tanya (David) Bowes of Tennesse, USA and Cynthia (Kevin) Dunbar of Westfield, NB; four brothers, Lawrence (Beverly) of Ont, David (Bernice), Murray (Marjorie) and Gregory Garnett all of Garnett Settlement, NB; four sisters, Patricia (Garney) Belding of Chance Harbour, NB, Donna (Dave) Drew of Calgary, AB, Dorothy Thompson and Louise Hewett both of Saint John; sixteen grandchildren, Sarah, Shena, Jason, Natalie, John, Angela, Nathan, Jennifer, Christopher, Jeffery, Jessica, Nicole, Mark, Allison, Megan and Emily; eleven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Parker, Camden, Issac, Jayden, Elijah, Olivia, Jarrod, Drew and Michael; eight step-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Laura; his wife, Irene (Hughes) Garnett, and one sister, Blanche Flewelling, and infant son Douglas K. Garnett. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday, September 9 from 7 to 9 pm and Wednesday, September 10 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 2:30 pm. A private family interment will be in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
