PETER GRAEME SOMERVILLE
SOMERVILLE, PETER GRAEME - After a life lived to the fullest, Peter died on Thursday, September 11th, 2008 in Fredericton, NB. Born in Saint John, N.B., he was the son of Catherine Lorraine (Vaughan) and Graeme Fletcher Somerville. Peter was educated in the public schools in Lancaster and Saint John, Dalhousie University, Halifax and McGill University, Montreal. Following a career with Maritime Life, Halifax Head Office (FLMI, AALU), his call to ministry took him to studies at the Atlantic School of Theology, Halifax, and then to chaplaincy work at the Saint John Regional Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital in Saint John, and York Manor Nursing Home, Pine Grove and the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation in Fredericton. Peter was affiliated as a field supervisor with the School of Social Work, St. Thomas University. In addition, he served in interim ministries in churches in Saint John and the Fredericton area. He also served on the Board of Directors of CHIMO, including a term as vice-chair, and the Board of Directors of the New Brunswick Hospice Palliative Care Association. Outside of work, Peter enjoyed singing with The Savoyard Singers of Fredericton. Peter is survived by his parents; brother, David; sister-in-law, Patti; and their children, Raven (and her husband Brad Taylor) and Eric; brother, Andrew; and his wife, Joyce; and their children, Christopher, Michael, and Caitlin, all of Saint John; and sister, Ruth, of Perth-Andover; and aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive visitors at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB (458-9170) on Sunday, September 14th, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate Peter's life will be held on Monday, September 15th, 2008 at 2:00 PM from Nashwaaksis United Church, 44 Main Street, Fredericton, NB with Rev. George Feenstra officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery, Saint John West on Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Flowers gratefully declined.
