HAROLD ERNEST CLOWATER

CLOWATER, HAROLD ERNEST - 84, Halifax, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Ernest and May (Lipsett) Clowater. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marie (Bird) and daughters Deanna (Charles) Fraser, Quispamsis, NB, and Lori (Robert) LeBlanc, Wolfville. He was predeceased by son Kevin (Debra) Clowater. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Tracy, Shannon, David, Phillip and Daniel and great grandchildren Alex and Molly. He is also survived by brothers Jim (Barb) Clowater, Gordie (Barb) Clowater, Wesley (Helen) Clowater, Jack (Linda) Clowater, Gerry (Donna) Clowater and sister Pauline (Paul) Stephenson. He was predeceased by stepmother Edith (Foshay) Clowater, sister Mildred Clowater and brother Donald (Marion) Clowater. Harold was an R.C.A.F. Veteran. In 1964 he started his business Commercial Refuse Ltd. Which he continued to operate until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Halifax Rotary Club since 1975 serving a term as President, becoming a Paul Harris Fellow and recently receiving the True Rotarian Award. Among his favorite times was the 10 years he worked on the Rotary Club project of building special needs furniture for the IWK. He was also an active member of Bethany United Church serving as a life long elder of session. As well, he helped establish the Spryfield Santa Claus Parade, and for some years, pulled Santa's sleigh with his ponies. Harold had a love of horses that continued throughout his life and brought him great joy. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 29th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Funeral will take place on Sunday, November 30th at 3 p.m. at Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Ave., Halifax, with a reception to follow. Family flowers only.
