ARTHUR PERCIVAL COWIE

COWIE, ARTHUR PERCIVAL - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Percival Jackson Cowie in his 100th year. Born in Fairville, West Saint John, New Brunswick on February 10, 1908 to the late John and Florence (Reed) Cowie. He was the eldest of two siblings. He and his family moved to Grand Manan Island where they spent many years. He met and married his wife of 67 years and raised three children. During his life he left his impressions on many. During the war he served with the Merchant Marines and was stationed in Newfoundland. After the war he was employed by the J.T. Irving Company and worked on the tankers as engineer and traveled up and down the Saint John River and the St. Lawrence River. He was the owner/operator of the Harbourview Inn at North head , Grand Manan and ran a deep sea fishing excursion service out of the hotel. He was deeply committed to the New Brunswick Tourism industry and was honored for his years of promoting the deep sea fishing sport. An active member of the Mananook Masonic Lodge on Grand Manan and achieved his jewels. He moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1958 and joined the Naval Auxiliary where he worked until his retirement on the auxiliary vessels, the St. John and the St. Charles , as trials engineer. Following his retirement in 1972 he and his wife moved to Kingston, Nova Scotia , where they both became deeply involved in the Kingston Lions Club. He will be fondly remembered for his infamous Strawberry Shortcakes at the Steer BBQ's each year, his gift of gab, his jokes and his love of fishing and hunting. He has spent the last few years as a resident of the Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia. Arthur is survived by his three children Eugene (Jacqueline) Kingston, Nova Scotia, Whidden (Moira) Trenton, Ontario and Wanda ( Bryan ) River Ryan, Cape Breton. Six grand children Debra, Kevin, Jonathan, Byron, Kirsten , Shannon and five great grandchildren.He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 67 years Mary Eunice ( Morse ) and his brother Gordon , Halifax. Cremation has taken place with interment in the Church of the Ascension Cemetery on Grand Manan Island next to his beloved wife. Dad You survived many years through troubles and strife, You provided for us, your children and wife. You lived life large and enjoyed it all, From fishing and boats and stories so tall. The imprint you left will always be deep, For we have the memories, and they're ours to keep. The gifts you gave us provided us life, Sleep in peace Dad, you have had a long life.
