BERNADETTE M. LOUGHERY
LOUGHERY, BERNADETTE M. - Bernadette Marie Loughery of Saint John, wife of the late Grenville Loughery, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Rocmaura Nursing Home, in her 99th year. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Clara (Harvey) Lunney. Bernadette was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School and the Provincial Normal School and had taught at St. Vincent's Boys School, St. Peter's School, and St. Patrick's School, from where she retired. A member of St. Peter's Parish, she was a strong supporter of Seminarians and Foreign Missions. Bernadette was also a long standing member of the Catholic Women's League and the Retired Teachers Association. Bernadette is survived by two sons, Merrill Loughery (Patricia) of Saint John, and Allan Welch (Jo Ann) of Black River; grandchildren, Andrea Gray, Colleen Sullivan, Andrew Loughery, Kevin Loughery, Sean Loughery, Christopher Welch, Shannon Robertson, and Carolyn Walker; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Bernadette was predeceased by brothers, Cyril, Leon, and Harvey Lunney; and by sisters, Eileen Lunney, Edna Lunney, Miriam McNamara, and Marie McCann. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am from St. Peter's Church, 50 Clarendon Street. Interment will take place in St. Thomas Cemetery, Black River, at a later date.
