JAMES MATTHEW FLECKNELL

FLECKNELL, JAMES MATTHEW - James Matthew "Matt" Flecknell of Saint John devoted husband for 53 years of Mavis (Spence) Flecknell, passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 28, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Matt was born July 22, 1935 in St. Martins. He was the son of the late Hedley and Ellen (Boylan) Flecknell. He attended Stella Maris Church and worked at St. Vincent's Convent for 42 years retiring in 2000. Matt was a life member of Jervis Bay Memorial Legion #53, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal and the Palm Leaf, and he held all offices in the Branch and was a Past District Commander of the R.C.L. for Saint John. He was also involved with the Jervis Bay "Ross Memorial Park" serving as Chairman. Matt was a Legion Liaison with the 527 Simonds Air Cadets Squadron. He enjoyed gardening and running his greenhouse as his parents did for years before him. Besides his wife Mavis, Matt is survived by his sons Joseph (Christine); grandson Oliver (Amanda); great-grandson Cole; grandson Christopher all of Saint John; son Charles; granddaughter Samantha, Katelyn all of Saint John; son David (Patricia) grandchildren Jillian, Meaghan and Michael all of Saint John; one daughter Nora Jean Pybus (Christopher); grandsons Colin and Matthew all of Ottawa; one sister Anne Melanson of Saint John, many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Matt was predeceased by brothers Vesey, Neil and Hedley Jr. and sister Rosemary "Judy" Lambert. At Matt's request there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held from Stella Maris Church Bayside Drive on Monday January 5th, 2009 at 12:05 p.m. Private family interment to take place at a later date.
