NORMAN RICHARD HATTO

HATTO, NORMAN RICHARD - The death of Norman R. Hatto of Saint John, NB, husband of the late Mae (Orr) Hatto, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, January 19, 2009. Born in Pokiok, NB, he was a son of the late Richard and Josephine (DeGrasse) Hatto. Norman was a resident of Saint John since July of 1965, retired as the Purchasing Agent - Woodlands for JD Irving Ltd. Norman was a veteran of WW II serving overseas in the Canadian Army and a member of Sussex Branch RCL. Norman was also a member of the Masonic Order and was a Past Patron of Fundy Chapter OES. He was an avid golfer and was an honorary member of the Maritime Seniors Golf Association and was a longtime member of the Sussex Golf and Curling Club. Active in the Simonds Lions Club he had joined in 1967 and was Lion of the Year 1976 - 1977, president of the club 1979 - 1980, district governor 41 - 0 from 1989 - 1990 and was a director of the Lion's Foundation of Canada. He was on the Board of Directors of Loch Lomond Villa. Predeceased by two daughters, Janet Ferguson and Peggy Hatto; four brothers and six sisters. Survived by his companion, Barbara Nickerson; one son James Hatto (Rose Ann) of Woodstock, NB; three daughters, Marilyn Kiauka (Rudi) of Vancouver, BC, Susan Varley of Richmond, BC and Teresa Hatto (Robert Grant) of Fredericton; four sisters, Althea Arbuckle of Prince William, NB, Pauline Denton of Hamilton, ON, Anna Brook (George) of Simcoe, ON and Fern Anderson (Bob) of Tilsonburg, ON; seven grandchildren, Tim, Sara, Tracey, Eric, Stephen, Sean and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jenna and Matthew; several nieces and nephews. Always loved for his sense of humour and joy of life he will be greatly missed. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
