KAREN LEE REID

REID, KAREN LEE - (March 22, 1942 - January 30, 2009) - Died peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa January 30, 2009. Karen was born in Saint John New Brunswick, daughter of the late Richard and Marion (Henwood) Reid. She graduated from Amherst Regional High School and St. Charles Business School. After working as personal secretary to Derek Oland of Moosehead Breweries, Dartmouth, N.S, she served in the Canadian Armed Forces (naval element) for twenty years. Following that she received her B.A. (magna cum laude) in religious studies from St. Thomas University and her M.A. (magna cum laude) in Roman Catholic theology from St. Paul's University, Ottawa. Ill health prevented her from pursuing further studies and she worked as she was able for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Karen enjoyed the camaraderie her co-workers provided, the joy her Yorkshire terrier "best friends" Shandy and Buds gave her and time spent with her family. Karen was predeceased by her parents and one great-nephew, Christopher Hull. She is survived by Marlene and Leon Hull. She was loved and will be missed by her sister Marlene, nephew Michael Hull, niece Nathalie McGrath and by great-nephews Mitchell and Joshua McGrath and Kolten, Kody and Chase Hull. Karen's wishes were that there be no visitation or services. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Saint John Animal Shelter.
