VAN DER LAAN, PAUL - The death of Jacob Paul van der Laan, age 9, of Mercer Settlement, New Brunswick, occurred at home, on Saturday, February 7, 2009, following a tough battle with cancer. He was born in Saint John, NB, on January 18, 2000, the son of Frank and Julie (Bernier) van der Laan. He is survived by his parents; brother Nicholas; sisters Kristen and Lily; maternal grandmother Joan Mitchell of Sussex; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Paul Bernier and paternal grandparents John and Grace van der Laan. He is resting at Sherwood's Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, with visiting on Monday and Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Atlantic Community Church, Apohaqui, NB, at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2009.
