ESTHER MAE ALLEN

ALLEN, ESTHER MAE - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB, following a lengthy illness, on February 10, 2009, Mrs. Esther Mae (Wilcox) Allen, wife of the late Mr. Anderson W. Allen of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Wood Island, Grand Manan NB on April 5, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Lealand and Clara (Schofield) Wilcox. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by one son, William "Bill" (Barbara) Allen of Utopia NB, two daughters; Jane Allen of Saint John NB and Nellie R. Allen of Halifax NS, four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three sisters; Kathleen Wilcox of St. George NB, Lydia Parker and Ella (Beverly) Cary both of Grand Manan NB, four brothers; Manson (Helen) Wilcox of Port Maitland NS, Lester (Betty) Wilcox of Pennfield NB, Walter (Alva) Wilcox of Moncton NB and Willis (Thelma) Wilcox of Grand Manan NB, special family friend, Donnie Munn and her beloved home care worker, Anne Grant, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters; Alta Ingersoll and Little Nellie Wilcox, and by two brothers; Hollis and Donald Wilcox. In her earlier years, Esther worked for Connor's Bros. as a Sardine Packer and was a long time member of the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church, where she served on the Missionary Auxilliary and was a member of the Choir. She loved quilting and doing crossword puzzles and was an avid Domino player. Resting at the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church, Blacks Harbour NB, from where the service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bruce Cheney and Rev. Jeff Hoyt officiating. The interment will be held at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring. Visiting at the church on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. In Esther's memory donations to Lupus Canada, The Canadian Alzheimer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
