SWEENEY, MONICA ROSE O'DONNELL - 1943-2009 - Monica Rose O'Donnell Sweeney passed away in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on February 13th, 2009 with her loving family beside her. Born in Lower South Johnville, Carleton County, New Brunswick on August 28th, 1943 to Arthur William O'Donnell and Frances Loyola McAdam, she attended local schools and completed business training in Fredericton, where she then enjoyed a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, until retirement 12 years ago. Monica was predeceased by her grandfather, Tom McAdam; her grandmother, Ellen (Feeney) McAdam; her father, Arthur O'Donnell; her mother, Frances (McAdam) O'Donnell; her uncles, Paul McAdam, John McAdam, Gus McAdam, Clyde Bulmer and John Stamey; her aunts, Mary (McAdam) Bulmer and Genevieve (O'Donnell) Stamey, her brother, Neil O'Donnell; her cousins, Jack McAdam, Jack Stamey and Peter McAdam. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Sweeney; her aunts, Louise (Glenn) McAdam, Anne (Rideout McAdam) MacDougall and Elvira (Logue) McAdam; her sisters, Agnes (Jerry) Crum and Phyllis O'Donnell; her brothers, Charles (Rayma) O'Donnell and Raymond (Ann) O'Donnell; her sisters-in-law, Barbara O'Donnell and Betty (Frederick) Huggins; her brothers-in-law, James (Joyce) Sweeney, Conrad (Lucille) Sweeney and Franklin (Alice) Sweeney; her nephews, Alex (Laura) O'Donnell, Patrick O'Donnell, Christopher O'Donnell, Andrew O'Donnell, Lloyd (Marisa) Sweeney and Gordon (Zoë Blitterswyk) Sweeney; her nieces, Maureen (Crum) (Stephen) Serban, Erin (Crum) (Ryan) Snyder, Jennifer O'Donnell, Katelyn O'Donnell, Kathleen O'Donnell, Janet (Carl Thorlakson) Sweeney, Katherine (David) Cannon and Paulette (Ralph) Ruff; her grandnephews, Daniel Serban, Jack Snyder, Joshawa Cannon and Mathew Cannon; and her grandnieces, Grace Snyder, Flora Sweeney and Meghan Sweeney; as well as many cousins. Born into the arms of a large and loving family, Monica grew up not only with several brothers and sisters but also with McAdam and Bulmer cousins who were like brothers and sisters, and aunts and uncles who were like extra parents. In this environment she developed a strong appreciation for family responsibility and support. When her mother passed away in 1965 Monica cared for her younger brothers and sister and then after her marriage she cared for her father before his death in 1970. Later as a Godmother and aunt, Monica developed particularly strong and loving relationships with her nieces and nephews. A woman of strength, grace, dignity and maternal fidelity, Monica demonstrated unconditional love and unwavering support for her family. She leaves that legacy for her nieces and nephews. She will be long remembered and sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. No visitation by Monica's request. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 at 12noon at St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Trzop as celebrant, con-celebrant, Rev. Joe LeBlanc. Interment will take place in the Hermitage Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
