ETHEL CHRISTINA MCCONCHIE
MCCONCHIE, ETHEL CHRISTINA - Ethel McConchie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Born in Sussex on October 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Elmina Price and the wife of the late Lavern McConchie who passed away in 1998. Ethel served in the RCAF from 1943 - 1945. She and her husband settled in Norton in 1953 and owned and operated McConchie's Special Care Home for 42 years. Ethel enjoyed sewing and knitting, making countless denim quilts for her grandchildren and for local charities, and was always there to support those in need. Ethel is survived by her sons: Kenneth (Mary) and Larry (Carol) of Norton; daughter Jean Chestnut (Bill) of Dutch Valley, by nine grandchildren: Jane, Joel, John, Jake; Shawnee, Shane, Sharlene, Deanna, Jaret; eight great-grandchildren: Brody, Shealyn, Lucas, Gracein, Lara, Layne, Isabella and Riley; three brothers: Gerald of Hoyt, Neil and his wife Evelyn and Jack and his wife Judy; three sisters: Lois McKinney and her husband Roland all of Barnesville, Nellie Hannaberry of Pembrooke, ON and Margaret Robison of Saint John, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ethel was predeceased by two sisters: Ruth Price and Geraldine McKay. The arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home 34 Sunnyside Dr, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Wednesday Evening from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Norton Branch # 76 will hold a tribute Thursday evening at 6:45. A Celebration of Ethel's life will be held on Friday, February 27 at 2:00pm from the Norton United Baptist Church, Church Street, Norton, NB followed by an interment at Riverbank Cemetery, Norton, NB. Remembrances may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation or the Norton United Baptist Church Building Fund or any charity of the donor's choice.
