CAROL JEAN BROWN

BROWN, CAROL JEAN - Carol Jean (Calvin) Brown, 64 of Madison and formerly of Saint John, NB passed away suddenly on March 12th, 2009. She was born November 17th, 1944 in Malden, MA to the late James E. Calvin and Carol Morgan (Murray) (Calvin) Whittaker. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Paul "Brinker" Brown and children, Heidi Werth and her husband, Doug of Madison, Heather Brown of Blowing Rock, NC and Erik Brown and his wife Kelly (Franklin) of San Diego, CA. Carol is also survived by four grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Werth Cole and Reed Brown; brother Dr. James E. Calvin of River Forest, IL. and step-father Glen Whittaker of Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick, Canada. She was known as "Mama Carol" to the many Sudanese boys whom she helped resettle to the New Haven area. Carol was a graduate of Connecticut College. She devoted her life to God, her Family and her Community. Examples of her devotion and many acts of kindness could be seen through her work with the Girl Scouts of America, the American Heart Association, the Connecticut Disadvantaged Youth Foundation, the New Haven Community Garden Refugee Resettlement Education and Medical Services. She was President of the Women's League and founder of the Lay Caring Ministry at the First Congregational Church of Madison. Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 PM Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at the Swan Funeral Home 825 Boston Post Rd Madison, CT. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend the Funeral Service at The First Congregational Church in Madison on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.
