REID, MARY "MONICA" (HOGAN) - Passed away on Wednesday, April 01, 2009 at the Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born on December 21, 1919 in Glace Bay, NS, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (MacNeil) Hogan. Loving wife of Phillip Reid for 66 years. Monica's greatest pride and joy was her role as a mother, grandmother and homemaker. As time went on, she entered the work force. She was employed in several dress shops, and finished her working life at the west side branch of the Saint John library. Monica will always be remembered for her fine sense of style . She had a natural flair for fashion which was no doubt improved by her experience in ladies wear. People also remember her warmth and compassion, natural attributes which were deepened by exposure to the many tragedies that are part of life in the mining town. Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Andy; daughters, Donna (Joe) Matthews and Linda (Stephen) Wood; brother, Steven (Rosella) Hogan; grandchildren, Sean (Jennifer) & Vanessa Reid, Shannon Matthews, Jilian Wood, Monique (Travis) Carr and Stephanie Wood; two great grandchildren, Aiden & Cedric Carr and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Sadie MacDonald, Rita Hogan, Sister Johanna Hogan and brothers, John, Aloysius, Joe and Father Andy Hogan. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John West (634-1701) visitation will take place on Thursday, April 02, 2009 and Friday, April 03, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 04, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, at a later date. There will be a reception at the Fallsview Family Reception Center, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations, in memory of Monica, may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Rocmaura or a charity of the donor's choice.
