BILL NEIL
NEIL, BILL - died peacefully in Victoria B.C. on March 22 at age 89. Born in Glasgow Scotland, he moved to Saint John N.B. at age three months. During WWII, he was a Wireless Air Gunner instructor and in 1945, moved with wife Fran to Calgary where he began a 40 year management career with Alberta Government Telephones, retiring in Edmonton. In 2007, he moved to Victoria to be close to his three children David, Janet and Laurie. Bill was always an avid sportsman and in his early days played on various basketball teams including the 1939 Saint John team that was a finalist in the Canadian Junior Championship and for which he was inducted into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He also coached the Edmonton team McKinnon's Eagles and refereed U of A games in the 1950's. As a member of the Derrick Club, he was an active golfer, badminton player and junior tournament organizer. Bill will be missed by his three children, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and by his many friends. Donations in Bill's memory thankfully accepted at the Salvation Army or you may donate blood as Bill did more than 50 times.
