FRANK D. - 1929 MCCARTHY

MCCARTHY, FRANK D. - 1929 - 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank McCarthy, who died surrounded by loving family at the Rocmaura nursing home on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009. Born on February 22nd, 1929, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mabel (Hogan) McCarthy. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Lynne (Quilty); three sons, Paul F. of Fredericton, John T. (Stacey) of Halifax, and Marty J. (Melanie) of Quispamsis; brothers Clarence (Cam) and his wife Doreen McCarthy of Rothesay; a sister Maureen Trenholme of Fredericton and six grandchildren, Michael, Connor, Shae, Benjamin, Cameron and Halle. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by brothers Father Raymond McCarthy (Scarborough Foreign Missions), and Gerald T., sisters Mary Riley, Eleanor Breen, Margaret Connors, Beatrice (Bea) LeBlanc, and Katherine (Kitty) Doiron. Frank graduated from Saint Vincent's Boys School in 1947 before beginning a career that spanned nearly four decades of loyal service with N.B. Power, the majority of which was spent in the capacity of office supervisor at the Courtenay Bay Power Plant. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club and K40 Club and enjoyed curling in his younger years. He had a keen intellect and was an avid follower of news, world events and politics, and would read the newspaper from cover to cover every day. Having been raised in a family with ten children and having lost his own father at the tender age of nine, Frank had an intense love for his own children and grandchildren, something evidenced by the glimmer in his eye and eager smile on his face when he would be visited in the nursing home in his last years and was recounted a story of something one of his grandchildren had said or done. Frank was born on the west side of Saint John, where he lived on Woodville Road until 2002. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in January of 1996, a disease he fought with quiet courage, dignity and grace until his last day. He never complained about his sickness and put everyone around him at ease with his comforting brand of self-effacing humour, something for which those who knew Frank, loved him dearly. Frank's family would like to extend the most heartfelt thanks to the loving and compassionate care providers at Rocmaura Nursing home, Loch Lomond Villa nursing home and the Saint Joseph's Hospital G.E.M. unit. Funeral arrangements are under the professional care of Castle Funeral Home,(Fallsview Chapel) 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, N.B. (634-1701). Visitations will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., and Sunday, April 12th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 13th at 12:00 noon from Our Lady Of The Assumption Church. Interment will follow the service at Holy Cross cemetery on Sand Cove Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rocmaura Foundation. Online condolences may be made at: www.castlefh.com
