RICHARD CEDRIC LEE

LEE, RICHARD CEDRIC - The death of Richard Cedric Lee occurred on Friday, April 17, 2009 at Kennebec Manor Nursing Home, after a period of 34 years of a crippling injury. He was the eldest son of Cedric and Grace Lee. He leaves behind to mourn besides his parents, his companion Jeanne Lee, a son John Chandler (Judy), two grandchildren, three brothers Barrie (Jane), John (Michelle) and Roger (Cindy). Before his accident Richard was a First Class Electrician for 15 years at Irving Pulp & Paper, where he was a favorite. He was also a mechanic on gasoline motors - bikes, cars and trucks. Born in Saint John in 1942, he was a life-long resident of the area. He attended the United Church Sunday School as a boy, and was a very caring boy and would rescue any bird or animal with a broken wing or injury. He was also a bit of a hero. While attending a wedding on Grand Manan Island he took a stroll down to the dock. A boy was seen doing tricks on his bicycle. Richard was horrified when the bike hit the side of the dock and the boy and his bicycle both plunged into the cold Bay of Fundy. Richard immediately plunged into the water to help the boy, who could not swim. He reached the struggling boy and swam around the dock, but there was no ladder, so he struggled his way along the dock to the beach where he collapsed with his precious cargo. After a suitable rest Richard borrowed another suit and went to the wedding. So that was Richard. Whether it was an injured bird or animal or a struggling boy in the water, he was there to help. He will be missed. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John West (634-1701) from where the funeral will proceed to Cedar Hill Ext. Cemetery (Manawagonish Rd.). There will be no visitation. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. After the interment there will be a reception at the Fallsview Family Reception Center.
