GORDON DARWIN EDWARDS
EDWARDS, GORDON DARWIN - The death of Gordon Darwin Edwards, loving husband of Muriel J. (McCarthy) Edwards, occurred on Wednesday April 22, 2009, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born March 19, 1919, on the Kingston Peninsula, where he lived all his life, he was the son of the late James Gordon Edwards and Mary (Miller) Edwards. Gordon was a carpenter/contractor for most of his life. Gordon and his wife, Muriel, owned and operated a country store in Summerville for 19 years. He served as an engineer and captain on the Romeo and Juliette Ferry. He loved life and people as well as music, especially fiddle music and the Long Reach Kitchen Parties, where he got to play not only the spoons but also the handsaw. He was an avid boater who built several boats of his own and for many years owned cabin boats. Besides his loving wife, Muriel, of 68 years, he is survived by daughter Rosalie Weeks (John); son Brian Edwards (Martha); two granddaughters Allison Burns (Jason) and Sheila Weeks-Bonnar (Stephen); four great grandsons Eric and Keegan Burns and Hayden and Seth Bonnar; one sister Audrey Rushton (Donald); several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Visitations will be held at his home in White Head, Kingston Peninsula, on Friday April 24, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Saturday April 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. A private family interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
