JIM KINGSTON

KINGSTON, JIM - Peacefully, surrounded by his family at St. Vincent Hospital, Ottawa, on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Currie) Kingston and by his cherished daughter Alexandra (Sandy) Kingston. Predeceased by his parents, James and Ethel (McCafferty) Kingston, by a sister Elizabeth, and a brother Arthur. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Jim graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1948 with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. In 1950 he graduated from Yale with a Master's Degree in Forest Economics. He later held a teaching fellowship at the College of Forestry, University of Syracuse where he pursued a PhD. A World War II veteran, Jim served for over two years in the Canadian Army as a Corporal Instructor at the Advanced Infantry Training Center, Camp Utopia, in Pennfield Ridge, New Brunswick - where he trained young men to become good soldiers. He served for five years as the Canadian Representative for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. He later served for 21 years as a Trade Economist and special advisor with the Canadian Department of Industry Trade and Commerce. Jim will always be remembered for his little, countless acts of love and kindness. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Friday, May 15th from 5 to 8 p.m., and at the Riverside United Church, 3191 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, on Saturday, May 16th at from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. In remembrance, memorial donations to the Salvation Army or to St. Vincent Hospital will be gratefully acknowledged.
