BYERS, NORBERT E.- Norbert E. Byers of Saint John, devoted husband of 39 years to Stella (Daley) Byers passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 29, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born 1947 in Saint John to Thelma (Toner) Byers of Saint John and the late Stephen Byers. Norbert was a Sandblaster and Painter by trade; he worked for Saint John Shipbuilding. Devoted husband, father, papa, great-grandfather, brother and friend, all who knew him will miss him terribly. Besides his wife Stella and his mother Thelma, Norbert is survived by one son Mark Anthony (Kayla); four daughters Veronica Lynn Byers (Ron), Tracy Dawn Marie Shepherd (Ryan), Thelma Joyce "TJ" Byers and Bonnie Jean Doucette (Jason) all of Saint John; brothers Stephen (Ann Marie), Alfred (Mary Ann), Brian (Tina) all of Saint John and Robin of Ontario; sisters Maria Johansson (George) of NS, Judy Thorpe (John) of Fredericton, Kathleen McInnery (Joseph) of Public Landing and Atha Byers of Saint John; nine grandchildren Samantha, Mikie, Jordan, Scottie, Austin, Abagail, Keira, Kaidense and Keanin, two very special great-grandchildren Desirae and Kegan; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides his father, Norbert was predeceased by his brother-in-law Ron. Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday June 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Following the service interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
